Unionpay International declared on May 22th that it will cooperate with the biggest bank of Pakistan -- Bank Al Habib Bank (HBL Bank) -- to make 2.1 million Unionpay IC cards on the basic that has made 2.1 million cards. It will be the first time making Unionpay IC cards to update products to push improvement of local payment industry.
The implementation of the Belt and Road and China–Pakistan Economic Corridor politics make breakthrough for Unionpay sales in Pakistan. Almost all POS terminal and 80% ATM machine support Unionpay service in Pakistan, 10 banks have made more than 4.1 million UnionPay cards, while Bank Al Habib Bank takes half sales amount. 90% trade of those unionpay cards happens in Pakistan, Unionpay cards are not only be the important payment method, but also became the second largest amount of international credit cards brand.
Relevant people in charge replied that UnionPay international will cooperate with the biggest bank of Pakistan to make Unionpay IC cards according to the Unionpay IC cards standard and advantages of IC cards, to realize industry update of Pakistan payment industry. Next, they will promote HBL to reform transaction system, which will be the foundation of Union IC cards production like cloud flashing payment. Final goal is to make Pakistan citizen could pay without contact safely and conveniently.
At present, there are more than 50 countries of the Silk And Broad have start the Unionpay sales. 80% ATM machines and POS terminal in Kazakhstan accept Unionpay cards, it may be improved to 95% in this year, which stands for more than 1.3 million Unionpay cards. Russia has 340 thousand POS terminal equipment and 40 thousand ATM machines support Unionpay cards service, which will be improved to 80% cover rate. It has been 100% cover in UAE.
